Grimsby Town Football Club will come together this Saturday to remember their Player Recruitment Lead, Alex Hughes, ahead of their Sky Bet League Two fixture against Exeter City at Blundell Park. Members of the Hughes family will be in attendance for the fixture, with supporters invited to join players, staff and fellow Mariners in a minute's applause before kick-off as they remember Alex and the significant contribution he made to the Club. Alex's sudden and unexpected passing earlier this summer left everyone at Grimsby Town devastated. Having joined the Mariners in 2025, Alex quickly became a highly valued member of the football department, working closely with Head Coach David Artell and his colleagues to support the Club's recruitment strategy and the continued development of the first-team squad. Away from his professional role, Alex was known for his warmth, kindness and positive personality, making a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to have worked alongside him. Saturday will provide an opportunity for the entire Mariners family to come together, pay tribute to Alex and show our continued support for his wife Jessica, his children Sebastian and Leonardo, and all of his family, friends and loved ones. We ask everyone inside Blundell Park to join us in the minute's applause before kick-off and help us remember a much-loved member of the Grimsby Town family. Supporters who wish to make a donation in Alex's memory can do so via the JustGiving page here. The Hughes family are in the process of establishing the Alex Mark Hughes Foundation and are carefully selecting a heart-related charity to support. Once confirmed, all donations will be directed to the charity chosen by Alex's family. Next fixture: vs Swindon Town (at home, 2027-02-27) (10th in the table).
